Review #whatever it is: John Dreamer

I really enjoyed John Dreamer. I found it incredibly emotional and moving and perfect for YA.
You may know about my hate of vampiric fiction (see that HERE), so whoopee-doo, no vampires in sight!
I really like the whole 'chairs thing' I mean, my chair would look like this:

I love the way the chairs represent personalities. Andy has a bit of a weird past, that is *mysteriously* connected with John D.Reamur's.  You have all types in their little group, from arrogant, to spoilt, to thoughtful, geek/nerd (I get tetchy about that too!) and natural-born-leader. I think the 'main idea' of the book is all about discovering yourself and your hidden goals as a person, something which all teens can relate to really easily (I know I can!)

How to write scarily

Hi all!
This may sound like a really weird post, but I'm currently writing a really scary scene in a short story (for English). I changed it from a street/urban setting:

Yeah, I only did it so that I could experiment with setting a really spooky scene-kinda a description.
So how did I set about writing a scary scene?
Well, I started with making a playlist-it consists of some slower Taylor Swift, some Lorde (Glory & Gore is good), lots of Bastille (I like These Streets) and some Les Mis (The Sewer, The Convent). Then I added Lux Aeterna, which freaks me out! I put myself into a dark room with only my laptop for company, and basically got really scared. Slenderman, music, movies, whatever works. It's really good for 1st person POV, becsue if you feel scared, so will your writing. I'm actually quaking in my boots now.

The saddest book in the world

I have just finished The Fault In Our Stars.

I cried a lot.

WHY??????????

Sorry. I love Hazel and Gus and Isaac and everyone else.
I do believe this is a rite of passage to read it.
And in no way shape or form do I regret reading it.
But it is sad.
(almost as sad as this:(All Too Well at the Grammys)

)

That's actually true. It's from The Book Thief, which I may have raved about. And every time, no fail, it makes me cry. 

Yes, I may be a wimp (thanks sister-code-named-Summer), but I have a heart. Books need to make you feel something, somewhere. If they don't it's not a good book.

Take a book you may not have heard of. Grave Mercy. I have read it countless times, and I am still incredibly scared for Duval EVERY TIME. That is a mark of an amazing author.But as I sit (generally on the bus), gripped by all the plot-lines colliding and weaving themselves together, I marvel. How can something stored on an electric device leave me lying awake at night, leave me quiet, leave me stunned and shocked?

FOOD!

Hello people of the world.

I bring you food. Because life deserves biscuits. These are possibly the best biscuits/cookies I have ever made. Where it says 'smarties' add whatever you want, just not Skittles. They don't work.

100g of sugar

100g of butter

4 tsp of golden syrup

75g of self raising flour

1 tube of Smarties

Another 75g of self raising flour

Preheat the oven to 180 degrees (170 Fan Oven). 

Cream the sugar and butter together.

Add 2 tsp of golden syrup.

Add the first 75g of flour, extra 2 tsp of golden syrup and the Smarties.

Mix together.

Add and mix the last 75g of flour.

Arrange on a baking tray in 10-12 blobs, I weigh mine to get the perfect cookie.

Put them in the oven at 180 degrees for 12-15 minutes.

Take them out and don't burn yourself, cause that's a bad idea.

If you do burn yourself, you are a bit thick.

Well helloooo!
No punching please. I am very busy what with 'work' and 'homework'. Such pretentious names.
But first of all:

Yes, The Book Fridge is one year old!

Here's to a year of late-night-post-stresses, writing at five in the morning, and endlessly promoting TBF.

*shoulder slump*. I remember it 'all too well' and 'I knew you were trouble'. (stop looking at Taylor Swift !).

One year ago, I got my first page view. Now I have nearly 4,000. Hey, when people call it stupid, when people call me stupid, I look at my stats. And they're not just in the UK. They're abroad; from the USA, from Russia, from Germany, Canada, France, China, Poland, Ukraine, Brazil, the Netherlands, Sweden, Greece and Turkey. 

And at the end of it, I want to say thank you.

Whether you were with me from that very-first-awkward-post, or were from the Grave Mercy band, or are even new to this blog now, each view has made me a little bit happier. You guys who keep looking at it, even when I don't post, are amazing. 

And hi email subscribers!

It's all about accepting yourself as a person, even if you are deadly beautiful. Even though Fire believes she is evil, she doesn't want to be like her Father. So she takes fate into her own hands. Which leads to total epicness.

Mr D. meets Lizzie. Hate all round. Lizzie meets Mr Wickham. Follow true lurve. Enter Jane and Bingley=true lurve. Darcy doesn't think Jane actually loves Bingley, so breaks them up. Boo-hoo. He realises he loves Lizzie, proposes to her and GIF BREAK!

Keira-LIZZIE says no because Darcy kind of broke her sisters heart. She mopes, but is cheered by Mr Wickham. She goes away, awkwardly bumps into Darcy and sister number five elopes with Wickham. Darcy pays for a marriage, because he's that kind of guy, and my clock appears! (Seriously!) Oh, and Lizzie meets Darcy's sister, Georgiana, who is gorgeous. Wickham tried to elope with her as well. Lizzie acknowledges her affection for Darcy and Lady Catherine de Bourgh pays a visit, claiming that Lizzie had no right to talk of a proposal to Darcy. BUT, Lizzie refuses to say to her that she will never marry Darcy.
They meet somewhere and he proposes and she accepts and they all live happily ever after THE END.

So where did it all go so wrong? In a love triangle, you have four options to resolve it:

1. Prove guy/girl no.2 to be disreputable (Pride and Prejudice)
2. Kill off guy/girl no.2 (Les Miserables, and didn't that end well!)
3. Turn girl/guy no.2 into a dragon (My name is Rapunzel. I didn't like Henry, I love James/John (I can't remember their names!))
4. Get girl/guy no.2 a boyfriend/girlfriend (Mortal Instruments. Easy way out.)

So, there you have it. PLease do the poll, because you know how happy that makes me.

Well hello FictionPress

Hello!
You may NOT send me hatemail. I have been very busy and had the most exciting weekend ever.
I went to see Taylor Swift.
I can die in peace.
Life is good (well...)

So, onto FictionPress. You may have love affairs with FanFiction (as I have!) but I keep coming back to FictionPress. In my spare time, I write a lot. Deep down, maybe I want to write when I'm older. I really don't know. But, I published on FictionPress today! 

So, why FP, not FF? Well, FP lets you be free. My story is called Rassemblement (it's french) and doesn't fit any of the books I've ever read well enough to be published as a spin-off.


In a way, it is partly inspired by many of the books I have read in my time. In addition to this, I have a very special (!) project underway, but want some appreciation now please. Thank you very much to everyone who reviews, follows or favorites. But to all who JUST READ IT, then slink away upset please.
I am disappointed.

Hello!
Book covers. I know I did the whole 'Judging a book by it's cover', but what makes a book inviting?
I did this thing a couple of years back where someone read a synopsis without showing you the cover of the book.'Twas interesting....

1. P1 doesn't think of herself as glamorous. But her gorgeous sister P2is. So when it's P1who spotted by a model agency, at the same time that P2 is diagnosed with cancer, things have clearly gone very wrong. P1 isn't interested in modelling but P2 wants her to give it a try. Just how far will P1 go to please her sister? And what sacrifices will she have to make?

2.P3 is greatly unimpressed by the haughty P4 when he snubs her at a dance, she considers him proud and arrogant. However, as events unfold, the spirited P3 discovers that a man can change his manners, and a lady her mind in this enchanting story of love, marriage and mutual understanding.

Ellipses

Helloooo...
I'm obsessed with ellipses  ...
Stop it already!
So, an ellipses is:
The omission of one or more words in order to avoid repetition.
Yeah. I knew that. But did you know that it comes from the mid 16th century: via Latin from Greek elleipsis, from elleipein 'leave out'.
Hark at me.

I love ellipses. The 'gap is yours to fill.' It adds an element of mystery if used to end a sentence, or humor if used in a sentence.
Think of a blank wall, with an ellipsis on.

Then you annotate it.

That is how I brainstorm. I love white space, it's so understated. Unlike an exclamation mark, an ellipsis can be used anywhere, from essays to poetry.
Anyway... My Favourite Poem is 'Don't Put Mustard In The Custard'. I think it has 'invisible ellipses'

The Dangers of Free Books

Hi!

Merry Christmas/Happy Holidays! (Don’t mean/want to offend-I can’t pay the lawyers fee)

‘Never trust a skinny chef’. Personally, I think it should be changed to ‘Never trust a free book’. I, being a teenager, never have any money with which to buy books-if I do have any, I’ll have already bought books from my ‘list’. I tick as I go.

When I discovered the Amazon™ Children’s Top 100 Free Books, I leapt several feet into the air. AT last, free books with no publishers denying my requests, and it’s legal!

Soon, the honeymoon period ended, and I discovered that while there are a few gems (more about those later), many books revolve about the Twilight genre-or, you know, Supernatural. I have found that there are no Tudor court romances, very little fantasy. However, to help you save money amidst the January sales, here is a little Book Fridge special so that you can spend your cash on shoes!

The Raie'Chaelia

TRC is the first part in a three-part series. It is the only one that is free, but many people would pay £6 for a worse book in your local bookshop. It is very well written and maintains a strong plot throughout. It is my favourite free book!

Pride and Prejudice

Cease your groaning please. P + P is a very good book, although the language may be a bit tricky to comprehend. Anyone who is watching Death Comes To Pemberly (squeee! Final episode tonight!) should be fine, so there is NO EXCUSE (not to read it).

Fairy Tales Every Child Should Know

FTECSK is unintentionally funny. Just the image of 'proper tales' is hilarious. In addition to that, the baddies win! In the Little Mermaid, she doesn't win, she becoems SEA FOAM!

What I don't like about them:

Self-published free books (note there is only one up there) often have not been edited/proof-read properly. I have developed a habit of correcting my free Kindle books-they annoy me so MUCH!
